After five years we returned to one of our favorite climbing areas in Colorado, Turkey Rocks. As we pulled into the parking lot we received an emergency alert that there was a forest fire in the area. We took a look around and did research with what little service we had and determined it would be safe to at least climb that day. With a route in mind we racked up, packed up and hiked away. We climbed the 3 pitch, 300 foot rock climb (Gobbler’s Grunt) on the Turkey Rock formation. It was some of the best climbing I’ve done in a while and we both had so much fun! When we topped out at the end of the climb we could see the smoke from the wildfire in the distance.
The next two or three days were spent climbing and hiking around Turkey Rocks. It was such a joy to revisit old climbs and compare our progress from five years ago. Our new favorite climb in the area is a single pitch called Steppen Wolf, truly stellar movement! We kept a watchful eye on the weather and nearby wildifre but luckily it never forced us away.
Eldorado, Colorado
We visited our Golden, CO friends who took us to Eldorado Canyon for our first time. What a blast we had climbing at this ultra-classic area. Absolutely beautiful rock with thoughtful climbs throughout. Each route we were interested in climbing we were able to hop on without a wait. That is completley unheard of climbing in Eldo on a weekend (which we were). After a great day climbing we went out and enjoyed tacos and margaritas! Kyle and I had plans to go back to Eldo for more climbing, especially to get on THE route there, Bastille. Unfortunately we never made it back, not yet at least.
While in Colorado Kyle and I tried our hand at fly fishing in Summit County. The fishing proved slow going and difficult. We spent almost two days just LOOKING for the fish. We had fun nonetheless exploring the rivers and enjoying the peaceful river flows.
